Anti-Gay Activist And Watergate Felon Chuck "Enemies List" Colson Dies At 80

Richard Nixon's infamous "dirty tricks" henchman, the notorious Watergate felon and anti-gay activist Chuck Colson, has died at the age of 80 after lingering for days following a brain hemorrhage.
Charles W. Colson, the Republican political operative who boasted he would “walk over my own grandmother” to ensure the reelection of President Richard M. Nixon and went on to found a worldwide prison fellowship ministry after his conversion to evangelical Christianity, died April 21 Inova Fairfax Hospital. He was 80. Mr. Colson’s reputation as a “dirty tricks artist” overshadowed his achievements as a darkly brilliant political strategist.

He had helped lay the groundwork for the Nixon landslide of November 1972 by appealing to disgruntled Democrats and blue-collar minority voters. A self-described “hatchet man” for Nixon, Mr. Colson compiled the notorious “enemies list” of politicians, journalists and activists perceived as threats to the White House. And most fatefully, he helped orchestrate illegal activities to discredit former Pentagon official Daniel Ellsberg, who was suspected of leaking a top-secret history of the Vietnam War to the New York Times and The Washington Post.
Colson was the co-author of the Manhattan Declaration, a landmark anti-gay document whose Christian signers pledge to willfully disobey laws regarding same-sex marriage.
We are Christians who have joined together across historic lines of ecclesial differences to affirm our right—and, more importantly, to embrace our obligation—to speak and act in defense of these truths. We pledge to each other, and to our fellow believers, that no power on earth, be it cultural or political, will intimidate us into silence or acquiescence. Through the centuries, Christianity has taught that civil disobedience is not only permitted, but sometimes required.
Earlier this year Colson was named by GLAAD's Commentator Accountability Project as an anti-gay leader whose past should be considered before being invited to speak on LGBT issues in the national media. Colson responded by comparing GLAAD to the terrorists of the Irish Republican Army.

PREVIOUSLY ON JMG

1. Chuck Colson says anti-bullying laws are actually meant recruit children into homosexuality.

2. Chuck Colson says that if gay people get any more civil rights, it will be time for Christians to revolt against the government.

3. Chuck Colson says that homofascists are repressing the religious freedom of Christians to oppress gay people.

4. Chuck Colson says that all school children need to be taught that God hates gay marriage.

5. Chuck Colson says if you'd only obey God's moral laws, you wouldn't be a dirty and eternally damned homosexual.

6. Chuck Colson says Apple is run by communists because they deleted the Manhattan Declaration app from the iPhone.

7. Chuck Colson says that if all Christians don't sign the Manhattan Declaration, the Nazi party will take over America.

CORONER: No Drugs In Andrew Breitbart's System, Supporters Double-Down On Claims He Was Murdered By Obama

The long-awaited report from the Los Angeles coroner was released yesterday. Despite what some in his inner-circle had suspected, the autopsy claims that no drugs were found in Breitbart's system.
The office of the Los Angeles County coroner has completed its investigation into the death of Andrew Breitbart on March 1, and has confirmed that he died of natural causes, namely heart failure. A press release issued by the Department of Coroner (below) notes: "No prescription or illicit drugs were detected. The blood alcohol was .04%," a negligible amount. The press release concludes: "No significant trauma was present and foul play is not suspected."
As I reported here shortly after Breitbart's shocking death, his backers immediately began claiming that he'd been murdered by agents of President Obama. Yesterday's coroner's report seems to have only inflamed these claims. From the comments on the above-linked item:

-There are numerous ways to disguise murder as a heart attack/failure. I find it extremely coincidental that our beloved Andrew died just before he was to begin the vetting of Barack Hussein Obama. If I were Sheriff Joe, I'd watch my back.

-Wake up! Americans! They killed this dude. Didnt really agree with him but he could say whatever he wanted to. These evil cabals, wacthers, elites, whatever you want to call them are getting to brazen. Let us not bicker. They will be defeated, once we stop defeating ourselves. Know your enemy!

-I find it suspicious that all the famous people dying lately do so mostly in Commiefornia: Dick Clark, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Steve Bridges the comic who made fun of Obama, Andrew Breitbart and even Mike Wallace. And a reminder the Coroner is elected. Wonder what Party holds the office? Read about communists - eliminating icons of society is something they do...they are the new saviors, they want people to forget the past.

ALASKA: Ted Nugent Gets Two Years Probation For Illegally Killing A Bear

Macho shithead rocker Ted Nugent has agreed to pay a $10,000 fine and accept two years probation for illegally killing an Alaskan black bear during the filming of an episode for his hunting reality show. He also has to film a PSA about hunting.
"This PSA will discuss the importance of a hunter's responsibility in knowing the rules and regulations of the hunting activities that they engage in, which is subject to the review and final approval, prior to any broadcast, by a representative of the United States Attorney's Office in the District of Alaska," the agreement says. Nugent, who signed the document April 14, also agreed to pay the state $600 for the bear that was taken illegally, according to the agreement. He would still need to enter the plea in court and have the plea be approved by a judge.

Afternoon View - Halston House

This Upper East Side townhouse was built in 1966 by noted modernist Paul Rudolph. When Halston lived there, it was known as the Studio 54 after-party house.
The Alexander Hirsch and Lewis Turner Residence, aka Halston House, 101 East 63rd Street, New York NY. Includes a private garage and rooftop deck. 7349 square feet. Sold in 1974 to designer Roy Halston Frowick, aka Halston, who made the house "party central" during the 1970's. In 1990, a few months before Halston died, he sold to Gunter Sachs and Gianni Agnelli. Eventually, Sachs bought out Agnelli's interest. Sachs committed suiciide in May 2011. For sale in 2011.
Cool photos of the interior are at the link. New York wrote about the place in 2005:
After Halston bought the house in 1974, it became a sort of hyperelegant confirmed-bachelor pad, and for fifteen years, the boldfaced walked brazenly in. They even gave the place a nickname, “101,” its street number. Normally they came for dinner, which, prepared by Halston’s live-in assistant, Mohammed Soumaya, usually consisted of caviar, a baked potato, and cocaine. “Often the potato course was passed over,” notes Halston biographer Steven Gaines. During a supposedly secret “drag party,” Steve Rubell wore one of Liza Minnelli’s dresses.

American Family Association: Obama Was Sent To Secretly Rebuild The Soviet Union

"The Marxist Barack Obama Sr. came to America and married Ms. Stanley Dunham, who he met in Russian class. Frank Marshall Davis, an editor of a Communist newspaper in Chicago with a damning FBI dossier, was a close friend to Ms. Dunham's father and later a mentor to his grandson, Barack Obama Jr. From the cousin Obama campaigned for, Kenyan Marxist Prime Minister, Raila Odingo, to Green Job Czar-Communist, Van Jones, to former White House communications director Anita Dunn, whose favorite political philosopher was Mao Zedong, to senior advisor Valerie Jarrett, daughter-in-law of Vernon Jarrett, philosophical friend and coworker of Frank Marshall Davis, the circle of Soviet romanticists surrounding the President seems endless. So, what did the administration mean about resetting relations with Russia? And if this proclivity to 'make it up' to the weakened Russians, handing them the tools to reclaim power, is already in place, is the gutted Space Shuttle Discovery a metaphor of what comes next?" - Sandy Rios, writing for the American Family Association.

StopBullying.gov

From the Obama administration. Valerie Jarrett explains:
Earlier today, we screened BULLY at the White House. We were joined by bullying prevention advocates from a range of communities – LGBT, AAPI, faith, disability, and others – as well as educational partners and key Obama Administration staff who work on these issues every day, including Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Before the film, a panel of nationally recognized experts on bullying prevention spoke from their perspectives about challenges and opportunities, and after the film, we heard from Lee Hirsch, the director and filmmaker, and several of the students and families who were directly impacted by bullying and intolerance and whose stories were featured in the film. This film is a powerful call to action: We must do everything we can to work toward the day when no young person or family suffers the pain, agony, and loss caused by bulling in our schools and communities.

Obama Endorses Federal Anti-Bullying Law

Today the White House thoughtfully picked the Day Of Silence to endorse the federal Student Non-Discrimination Act (SNDA) and the Safe Schools Improvement Act.

Chris Geidner reports at Metro Weekly:
White House spokesman Shin Inouye tells Metro Weekly, "The President and his Administration have taken many steps to address the issue of bullying. He is proud to support the Student Non-Discrimination Act, introduced by Senator Franken and Congressman Polis, and the Safe Schools Improvement Act, introduced by Senator Casey and Congresswoman Linda Sanchez. These bills will help ensure that all students are safe and healthy and can learn in environments free from discrimination, bullying and harassment." The SSIA would amend the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act to include bullying- and harassment-prevention programs, including ones based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The SNDA, modeled after Title IX, would add sexual orientation and gender identity to federal education nondiscrimination law.
Tonight the White House is also screening the movie Bully to an audience of community activists. Reactions from LGBT rights groups are below.

GLSEN
"Today is a day that I have hoped for since I began my work as an anti-bullying advocate after losing my son Carl," said Sirdeaner Walker. "I believe that President Obama's explicit endorsement of the Safe Schools Improvement Act will make a tremendous difference in moving this issue forward. Having met with the President three times, I knew his support for SSIA and the Student Non-Discrimination Act was genuine. But stating that publicly on GLSEN's Day of Silence pushes it to a whole new level. While nothing can bring Carl back, I know that these bills can make a real difference to end the bullying and harassment that is faced by too many other sons and daughters today."
National Gay & Lesbian Task Force
“We thank President Obama for endorsing the Safe Schools Improvement Act and Student Non-Discrimination Act. The epidemic of bullying and discrimination in our nation’s schools is a tragedy and an outrage. No student should fear getting beaten up, harassed and tormented while simply trying to get an education. We have a responsibility to ensure all young people are protected from this pervasive bullying, discrimination and abuse. Parents, educators, policymakers — all of us — need to stand against this unacceptable behavior. The president did that today. We urge him to now help get these life-saving bills through Congress.”
Lambda Legal
"We applaud the Obama administration for endorsing this critical piece of legislation. We thank Sen. Al Franken,Rep. Jared Polis, Rep. Barney Frank and Rep. Tammy Baldwin and over 50other current sponsors for their leadership on this bill and we urge Congress to pass it. At Lambda Legal, we've encountered extraordinary cases of violence and discrimination against LGBT young peoplein schools - and sometimes against the allies who try to support them. The Student Non-Discrimination Act takes a big step toward a safer and healthier environment in every public school."
ACLU
“Having the White House stand behind the Student Non-Discrimination Act is key to getting this necessary legislation passed into law,” said Ian Thompson, ACLU legislative representative. “Our public schools should be a safe harbor for our youth, not a place of exclusion and ridicule. By passing the Student Non-Discrimination Act, Congress can have a profound and very real impact in improving the lives of LGBT students. It’s time to make passage of this bill a priority.”
Human Rights Campaign
“The President’s endorsement of the SNDA and SSIA recognizes the importance of providing LGBT students with the same civil rights protections as other students,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “No student should feel scared when walking into their school and these bills would address the discrimination and bullying that our youth have endured for far too long.”

Politico Rips Romney's New Homocon

After the news broke that Mitt Romney had hired homocon flack Richard Grenell to be his foreign policy spokesman, Politico dug into his Twitter history and revealed a history of viciously mocking Newt and Callista Gingrich.
Since the start of the year, Grenell has mocked the Gingriches over Newt’s extramarital affairs, Callista’s appearance and her demeanor on the campaign trail. Most recently, he cracked on March 13: “do you think callista’s hair snaps on?” On March 6, as the Super Tuesday returns rolled in, he tweeted: “Calista stands there like she is wife #1” On January 26, he asked: “does callista speak?” His tweets on the Gingrich marriage(s) go back at least to January, when he tweeted during a Jan. 26 debate: “let’s have Newt rate all his wives….” And later in the same debate: “Newt: My 1st Lady knows what it’s like to be 2nd and 3rd….” And then later: “Newt compliments all the wives proving he can’t pick just one 1st lady.” At the debate before that, ahead of the Florida primary on Jan. 23, Grenell cracked: “newt will win this question because he had 3 families!” On the previous day, he wondered: “what’s higher? The number of jobs newt’s created or the number of wives he’s had?”
It should be noted that live-tweeting cracks about Mrs. Number Three's robotic appearance were a favorite debate pastime of my own too, but then I'm not working for the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party. On his very first day on the job, homocon Grenell has had to issue apologies for hating on the ladies of the GOP. Heh.

Email Of The Day - Gov. Scott Walker

"Fellow Conservative, With only a short time before the June 5th recall election, the mudslinging from the Left has begun. Big-government union bosses and Washington insider special interests have started pouring money into Wisconsin in an attempt to push me out of office and reclaim their stranglehold on Wisconsin’s tax dollars. A win on June 5th will be a referendum on those trying to stifle the voice of the people and hand power back to the big-government public union bosses that want nothing more than complete control of a state’s budget. We must defeat this baseless recall. We must defeat the liberal left that is trying to silence the majority of hard working taxpayers and further raid their wallets to keep their bloated bureaucracies afloat." - Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, in today's money beg.

Missouri Advances "Don't Say Gay" Bill

Taking a page from the bigots in Tennessee, the Missouri House has advanced a bill that effectively outlaws any mention of homosexuality in public schools. The bill is aimed at thwarting anti-bullying measures and would also prevent the formation of Gay-Straight Alliance clubs.

The bill reads:
170.370. Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, no instruction, material, or extracurricular activity sponsored by a public school that discusses sexual orientation other than in scientific instruction concerning human reproduction shall be provided in any public school.
The Vital Voice reacts:
For the last several years, PROMO and our allies have worked to advance pro-lgbt legislation, and we are seeing steady, continuing success. Filing this bill is a desperate tactic by frightened, bigoted, cynical individuals who are terrified at the advancement the LGBT community has made in breaking down the barriers to full and equal treatment under the law. Why else would they file a bill so clearly out of step with the growing trend for fairness in this state when similar legislation filed in Tennessee last year led that state’s legislature to become the object of national ridicule?

NYC Gets The "Smartboot"

New York City is about to begin using the "smartboot," which can be removed by drivers themselves once they've paid their overdue tickets and received the removal code by phone.
Under the program, a city marshal will be deployed with teams of PayLock employees. The marshal will verify that a car has more than $350 in judgments, then authorize PayLock to boot it. The scofflaw can then call a toll-free number and pay his bill immediately by credit or debit card. PayLock will give him a code to self-release the boot. Or the driver can travel to a city payment center and pay his tickets and fees in cash, then get the release code. A motorist who owes $355 in parking tickets, for example, will have to pay an additional $180 for Paylock’s “boot fee,” $70 for a marshal’s “execution fee,” plus a “poundage fee” of 5% of the entire bill. In this case, that would be another $30. And, if the driver pays by credit card, he or she will be charged a small additional “convenience fee.” Drivers would be forced to shell out nearly $300 on top of the original $355 in tickets. That’s virtually the same amount as under the current towing system — even though the city will be towing far fewer cars.
After drivers remove the Smartboot, they'll also get charged $25 for every day that they don't return the device to the parking enforcement department.

NOM Denounces Seattle Priest For Refusing To Distribute Anti-Gay Petitions

"I must seriously doubt, based on his statements, that Fr. Michael Ryan of the Cathedral of St. James is doing anything to defend or articulate the Church’s views on marriage. In fact his failure to enlist his parish in preserving marriage speaks volumes. On a question as central as marriage, the Church does not have the option or the capacity to be 'neutral.' Even more revealing is the way he has chosen to frame this effort to preserve marriage, saying it could 'prove hurtful and seriously divisive in our community.'

"When a Catholic priest starts saying a teaching of the Church is 'divisive' what he really means is he has chosen to divide himself away from the Church’s teaching. I want to commend Archbishop Peter Sartain for bravely enlisting Catholics in his archdiocese to preserve marriage despite the obvious attempts by some priests to embarrass him in front of their congregations and the media." - NOM blogger Thomas Peters, writing for Catholic Vote.

TEXAS: GOProud Welcomes Racism-Tinged Former Log Cabin Dallas Chapter

You might recall that last fall the Log Cabin Republicans dissolved their Dallas chapter after its president, Rob Schlein, went on national radio to declare that businesses should have the right to fire people for being black. Schlein went on to write an editorial column backing Rick Perry for the GOP nomination. This week the former members of that LCR chapter have elected to join GOProud, which has welcomed them despite last year's racism scandal.

Dallas Voice has the press release:
“Metroplex Republicans is one of the strongest and most influential local gay conservative groups in the country,” said Jimmy LaSalvia, GOProud executive director. “We are lucky to add them to the GOProud family. “For years, Metroplex Republicans have been an incredibly important and influential player on the Texas political scene. They have built an impressive grassroots organization with long-standing and impressive political ties to the state and local Republican leadership,” continued LaSalvia.

“We are pleased to be able to announce our intention to affiliate with GOProud,” said Rob Schlein, President of Metroplex Republicans. “We have been admirers of the great work GOProud has done since their founding in 2009. In just three short years, GOProud has established itself as the leading voice nationally for gay conservatives. They have built bridges in the conservative movement, thought outside the box, and fundamentally transformed how the world thinks about gay conservatives. We are thrilled at the opportunity to join the GOProud family.”
The first guest speaker for the new group will be GOP Senate candidate Lela Pittinger, who says she'll meet with them because, after all, Jesus ate dinner with sinners.

CALIFORNIA: State Funds Study Of Daily Pill To Prevent HIV Infection

California has funded a controversial study to test whether giving high-risk patients a daily HIV medication will prevent their infection. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has been denounced by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which has launched statewide media campaigns against the concept.
The pill, which is already used to treat HIV patients, will be prescribed to 700 gay and bisexual men and transgender women in Los Angeles, San Diego and Long Beach who are high-risk but not infected. [snip] "With this new prevention pill, we have another intervention to put in the arsenal to try and impact this epidemic," said George Lemp, director of the California HIV/AIDS Research Program with the University of California president's office. The pill, under the brand name of Truvada, is already approved by the Food and Drug Administration for treating HIV but not for prophylactic use.

In 2010, a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine said that it reduced the risk of contracting HIV by 44 percent to 73 percent, depending on how often participants took their medication. The two-drug pill, produced by Gilead Sciences in the Bay Area, has side effects that include nausea and vomiting, and possible kidney problems when used with other anti-HIV drugs. A recent Stanford University study showed that the pill, which costs about $26 a day, only makes sense economically if prescribed to people at high risk, such as those with multiple partners.
AIDS Project Los Angeles will recruit subjects for the study.

Romney Campaign Hires Homocon Richard Grenell As Foreign Affairs Spokesman

The Romney campaign has hired homocon Richard Grenell as its spokesman on foreign affairs and national security issues. Metro Weekly:
Grenell served through September 2008 in the Bush administration as a spokesman to the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations -- and told The Advocate's Kerry Eleveld as he left the administration that it was his hope that New York would have marriage equality soon and that he would one day be able to marry his partner, Matt Lashey. The couple has been together 10 years. Log Cabin Republicans executive director R. Clarke Cooper, who also served in the Bush administration, tells Metro Weekly that Grenell will be "a tremendous asset" to the Romney campaign. "Having served with Ric," Cooper says, "I can attest that his experience in the multi-lateral environment of the UN and familiarity with domestic and international media make Ric a strong voice."
GOProud's Jimmy LaSalvia told Metro Weekly's Chris Geidner: "I think [Romney] picked the best person for the job, and I think that's all you should read into this." Andrew Sullivan reacted too: "For Romney to have an openly gay spokesman is a real outreach to gay Republicans, a subtle signal to moderates, and the Santorum faction's reaction will be worth noting."

RELATED: Last month Grenell wrote a blistering attack on liberal gays for continuing to support President Obama. From the Washington Blade:
The overwhelming majority of people running gay organizations are Democratic activists that don’t want or believe in bipartisan politics. They just want Democrats to win elections. Capehart and the folks at HRC know that if they can’t deliver the gay votes and money for their Democratic Party candidates then they won’t get bigger jobs, consulting gigs or dinner invites. They are loyal to their party at the expense of the movement. It’s politically smart – if you want to further your career within the Democratic Party, that is. Gay leaders in Washington deserve this duplicitous president.
And yet he goes to work for the signer of NOM's hate pledge, which vows to write anti-gay discrimination into the federal constitution.

Slaggie Pooh-Poohs Polls

"Social issues are always further down the list of voters' concerns, below jobs, the economy, getting blown up by terrorists, health care and education -- this year is no exception. But the values issues continue to be crucial to any Republican who hopes to get elected president. Other than the budget deficit, the only issues strongly favoring Romney are gun control (52-44) and gay marriage (50-43). Romney clearly has repair work to do. Even after Rick Santorum's withdrawal, 46 percent of GOP voters say they would prefer someone else. But 88 percent of Republicans say they will vote for Romney, as will 90 percent of conservative Republicans and 91 percent of white evangelicals." - Maggie Gallagher, writing for UExpress.

COLORADO: Christian Hate Group Wins
Bid To Place Legalization Of Anti-Gay Discrimination On November Ballot

Despite the efforts of One Colorado and the JMG readers who pitched in to fund the battle, today anti-gay Christian hate group Focus On The Family won their battle to place a legalization of anti-gay discrimination on the statewide November ballot.

If the ballot measure were to win, LGBT people could be denied housing, employment, access to services, anything. All in the name of a "religious liberty" to hate.

One Colorado's Brad Clark writes us:
I'm sitting in the Secretary of State's office. Today's title board hearing just finished up. Despite having some of the best legal minds in Colorado working for us and mounting a strong legal case, we lost our initial challenge to Focus on the Family's deceptive ballot initiative to write discrimination into our state Constitution. Now we have to take our challenge to the Colorado State Supreme Court. If we don't, this dangerous measure is all but certain to appear on our ballot this fall. If enacted, this measure's radical effects will be felt in Colorado for decades to come—and would have far-reaching implications for LGBT Coloradans.

Editorial Of The Day

From the Washington Post:
WHITE HOUSE press secretary Jay Carney spent a good chunk of his time during a briefing last week trying to explain why President Obama has declined to issue an executive order barring federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation. Mr. Carney struggled for some eight minutes but was unable to give a satisfactory answer. That’s understandable, because there is no principled reason for refusing to extend such workplace protections to millions of Americans. [snip] The president played a pivotal role in the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” and also deserves credit for refusing to defend the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act. He should again seize the mantle of leadership by issuing an executive order that prohibits the federal government from doing business with contractors that fail to guarantee basic fairness to their LGBT employees.

Dark Shadows' Jonathan Frid Dies At 87

The man who literally sent my sister screaming into the night has died. A typical Twitter reaction: "He died now rather than see Johnny Depp ruin his character forever."
Actor Jonathan Frid, who played imposing and elegant vampire Barnabas Collins on the gothic soap opera "Dark Shadows," has died at 87. Frid passed away on April 14 from natural causes in his native Ontario. "Dark Shadows" ran from 1966 to 1971, drawing 20 million viewers at its peak. Frid joined the show in 1967 and his character, an elegant vampire recently freed from his chained coffin and returning to his family's estate, Collinwood, quickly became the unquestioned star.
Many speculate that Jonathan Frid was gay and rumors were rife at the time of the show (I remember hearing them in grade school), but at this writing there's no evidence that he ever came out.

Bloomberg On Smoking, Part 2

"If you really intellectually start thinking about it, we protect people from hurting themselves, if they're trying to jump off a bridge we restrain them. Should you really do it with smoking? We're not gonna do it with smoking. Our job is to inform people and then let them make decisions based on the risks that they want to take and the way they want to live their lives. And we shouldn’t be telling you how to do that." - Michael Bloomberg, claiming that he's not looking to ban smoking itself. He's just made it illegal to smoke anywhere in New York City. Like on the sidewalks. In Times Square. At the beach. In parks. In bars and restaurants. And soon, in your own homes, the final frontier of Bloomberg's campaign.

LOUISIANA: Bullying Bill Pulled Because Gay Students Don't Actually Get Bullied

Advocates for LGBT students have pulled their anti-bullying bill from consideration after the Louisiana Family Forum pressured legislators to strip the mention of sexual orientation from the bill. Because being gay does not subject a student to bullying.
In what has become a near annual rite at the Louisiana Legislature, civil rights and gay rights advocates failed Wednesday to win approval for a more detailed and, advocates say, stronger anti-bullying law for public schools. Rep. Pat Smith, D-Baton Rouge, pitched House Bill 407 as necessary, given continued evidence of bullying, including a recent suicide by a Point Coupee teenager who had complained to adults many times about being mistreated by her classmates. Opponents, lead by the conservative Louisiana Family Forum and aides to Gov. Bobby Jindal, argued that the measure went too far by listing perceived or actual characteristics that should not subject a student to bullying. The committee voted 10-5 to strip the bill of those key changes, which included sexual orientation. Smith shelved the measure, saying the action gutted its intent.

Uganda President Defends Anti-Gay Laws

On Top Magazine reports:
Uganda President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday denied anti-gay discrimination exists in his country and asserted that all a proposed anti-gay bill would do is ban public kissing. The bill, first introduced in 2009 by MP David Bahati, once called for putting repeat offenders to death under certain circumstances. The current bill would criminalize discussions of homosexuality and penalize a person who knowingly rents to a gay or lesbian person. Museveni made his comments during an appearance on CNN's Amanpour. Appearing via satellite, Museveni told host Christiane Amanpour that homosexuality was being imported into his country.
Props to Christiane Amanpour for her doggedness.

World Net Daily Backs Ted Nugent

Ted Nugent is being hauled before the Secret Service today to answer questions about statements he made that many interpreted as threats to assassinate President Obama. Not surprisingly, Christian outpost World Net Daily thinks that's OK. Check out their petition.

Whereas, Nugent faces an investigation by the Secret Service for allegedly threatening the commander in chief even though he was only using metaphors to accentuate his irrefutable message: America is in deep trouble, and its citizens must act;

Whereas, he, nevertheless, has stood by his remarks and further condemned "power-abusing, corrupt monsters in our federal government that despise" him because he has the "audacity to speak the truth";

Whereas, Nugent has brought attention to the gravity of this moment in American history by provocatively stating that if Obama remains in the White House he "will either be dead or in jail by this time next year";

We, the undersigned, wholeheartedly stand behind Ted Nugent and urge all Americans to follow his example and use their own gifts, resources and unique platforms to help ensure that Barack Obama is not given the opportunity to destroy the world's greatest nation.

Photo Of The Day

Andre Noel Denny, the suspected murderer of Canadian gay activist Raymond Taaval, reacted to cameras last night as he was led to his arraignment. Local activists are calling for the killing to be prosecuted as a hate crime as witnesses heard Denny shouting "Faggot!" as he repeatedly smashed Taaval's head into the pavement. Denny has a history as a violent mental patient. (Tipped by JMG reader Murray.)

Does Wal-Mart Spawn Hate Groups?

In a fascinating study, researchers say that the number of Wal-Mart locations in any particular region tends to correlate with the number of SPLC-certified hate groups.

The number of Wal-Mart stores was second only to the designation of a county as a Metropolitan Statistical Area in statistical significance for predicting the number of hate groups in a county, according to the study. The researchers, who reported their findings in the online version of , said that the number of Wal-Mart stores in a county was more significant statistically than factors commonly regarded as important to hate group participation, such as the unemployment rate, high crime rates and low education.

Researchers say they are not singling out Wal-Mart in particular and that other big box retailers likely have a similar effect on "community cohesion."

TENNESSEE: Senate Passes "Religious Viewpoints Anti-Discrimination Act"

The Tennessee state senate has unanimously passed a bill that outlaws preventing students from expressing religious beliefs in class. Critics say the bill is a transparent attempt to crowbar Christian indoctrination into public schools.
The measure sponsored by Republican Sen. Kerry Roberts of Springfield was approved 29-0 on Wednesday. The companion bill is awaiting a vote on the House floor. Roberts says the proposal requires school districts to treat a student's religious expression the same as they would a secular viewpoint. Students would also have access to school facilities to organize student prayer groups or other religious gatherings. Democratic Sen. Beverly Marrero of Memphis, who abstained from voting, questioned whether the bill is "trying to make schools similar to Sunday schools."
RELATED: Last month the Tennessee senate approved a bill that will allow teachers to advocate for creationism and against climate change.

How Do You Restore The Future?

The name of Mitt Romney's Super PAC has got folks wondering what the hell it means.
It's an actual contradiction, an inscrutable zen koan for this election cycle. It is, concedes a top Romney supporter, "a head-scratcher." The Democratic consultant Paul Begala, who heads Obama's counterpart group Priorities USA, goes one step further. "It drives me fucking crazy," Begala said. "It just doesn't make any sense. It's like saying, 'I'm out in the garage restoring my 2020 Ford car.'" The origins of the title are the source of some mystery in Republican circles. Charlie Spies, the former Romney aide who runs it, declined to comment after, he said, consulting with his the others running it.

TRAILER: Magic Mike

Still Waiting On Breitbart Autopsy

After Andrew Breitbart dropped dead on March 1st, the Los Angeles County coroner declared that "natural causes" had taken the raging wingnut, meaning only that "the body has nothing externally visible that would lead them to believe that the death was caused by blunt-force trauma, a stab wound, or so on."

Breitbart, who was known by all as a hard drinker, had also acknowledged his history of cocaine use, leading some who knew him to make immediate speculations. From a March 4th entry on The Fix:
A source close to the blogger told The Fix on condition of anonymity that he'd done cocaine with Breitbart as recently as last October. On the day after his death, Anthony Cumia, of the radio show "Opie and Anthony," said of Breitbart, “I went out drinking with him, and boy, can he party.” “He liked to stay awake," added Anthony. "That’s all I’ll say.” Other friends maintain that Breitbart regularly took high doses of Adderall and other stimulants to counteract his lifelong ADD. (Both cocaine and Adderall, an amphetamine, can increase the risk of a heart attack. The FDA even warns that Adderall can cause “sudden death in patients with heart problems or heart defects.”)
At the time of death, the coroner's office stated that a toxicology report would take "four to six weeks" to complete. That report is now overdue. With the rampant canonization of Breitbart taking place across of the blogosphere, many are now wondering if the report will ever been seen.

The Scent Of Apple

An Australian firm claims to have created a fragrance similar to the one that wafts over fanboys when they first unwrap a brand new Macbook Pro.
A distinctive scent can be observed when unwrapping a newly purchased Apple product from its packaging. Apple fans will certainly recognize this smell. The scent created for Greatest Hits encompasses the smell of the plastic wrap covering the box, printed ink on the cardboard, the smell of paper and plastic components within the box and of course the aluminum laptop which has come straight from the factory where it was assembled in China.
Consider it the 21st century version of new car smell.

Vatican Orders Crackdown On U.S. Nuns: You Aren't Hating Homosexuals Enough

The Vatican has strongly reprimanded America's 55,000 nuns, saying that they are not being vocal enough with denouncements of homosexuality and same-sex marriage.
In many ways, the Vatican's actions against the LCWR encapsulated the kind of hard line that many expected Benedict — the Vatican's former doctrinal czar — to take when he was elected in 2005. "The current doctrinal and pastoral situation of the LCWR is grave and a matter of serious concern, also given the influence the LCWR exercises on religious congregations in other parts of the world," said the eight-page statement issued by the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which Benedict led for a quarter century before his election. The directive, which follows a two-year investigation by Rome, also comes as the Vatican appeared ready to welcome a controversial right-wing splinter group of Catholic traditionalists back into the fold, possibly by giving the group a special status so that they can continue to espouse their old-line rites and beliefs.
In charge of the new national crackdown is Seattle Archbishop Peter Sartain, who last month ordered local parishes to launch petition drives to repeal same-sex marriage.

Gays Stole The Rainbow

"Let’s take back the rainbow for God. Let the homosexual community find a different religious symbol to commandeer. If they were feeling congenial, perhaps the Muslims would let them borrow their crescent moon. In these desperate economic times, maybe the Wiccans would rent the pentagram to them. I don’t really care. What I want is for the Christian community to wake up, wipe the sleep from their eyes, and realize that they are in a spiritual battle that isn’t going away and has no demilitarized zones. The rainbow is a symbol, but it’s meaning points to the very character of God. So Christians, use this God-given symbol for His glory. Using it won’t make you a homosexual. It won’t make you a New Ager. It won’t make leprechauns real. But it might allow you to get into conversations with people who need to meet the very One Who gave us His promise in the first place." - Ken Hutcherson, writing for World Net Daily.

PREVIOUSLY: Ken Hutcherson: "I was born and raised in Alabama where blacks and whites didn’t get along very well, and I tried being one of the main reasons they didn’t. I was extremely discriminatory towards whites. The only reason I played football was so I could hurt white people legally."
