ACLU Demands Voter Fraud Investigation Of Anchorage LGBT Rights Referendum

Earlier this week we learned that a coalition of Christian churches headed by anti-gay activist Jim Minnery (left) had encouraged illegal voting in Anchorage's LGBT rights referendum. Anchorage Municipal Clerk Municipal Clerk Barbara Gruenstein has said that she has reason to believe that people from outside of Anchorage had "crashed" the election. Yesterday the ACLU called for a special counsel to investigate the growing scandal surrounding the vote.
As an internal city review of what went wrong in Tuesday's Anchorage election moves forward, the American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska is calling for a special counsel to investigate the matter. So far, 59 of 121 voting precincts have been reviewed by the city clerk's office and just over half, 31, ran out of the preprinted ballot cards at some point, according to the clerk's office. A vote for mayor and a hotly contested, emotional gay rights measure were among the issues on the ballot. ACLU executive director Jeffrey Mittman sent letters to Anchorage Assembly Chairwoman Debbie Ossiander, City Clerk Barbara Gruenstein and municipal attorney Dennis Wheeler calling for "an independent, special counsel to investigate the conduct of the April 3, 2012 Municipal Election." Ossiander said it's too early to begin an independent investigation. The city clerk and six-member Election Commission need time to do their work, she said.
RELATED: Jim Minnery is the cousin of Focus On The Family vice president Tom Minnery, who was famously slapped down by Sen. Al Franken during anti-gay testimony before Congress.

Thomas Kinkade Dies At 54

Thomas Kinkade, the wildly successful artist whose cheesy paintings adorn budget hotels from coast to coast, has died at the age of 54. The cause of death has not been revealed.
The self-described "Painter of Light" produced sentimental scenes of country gardens and pastoral landscapes in dewy morning light that were beloved by many but criticized by the art establishment. Kinkade died at his home in Los Gatos in the San Francisco Bay Area of what appeared to be natural causes, said family spokesman David Satterfield. He claimed to be the nation's most collected living artist, and his paintings and spin-off products were said to fetch some $100 million a year in sales, and to be in 10 million homes in the United States. Those light-infused renderings are often prominently displayed in buildings, malls, and on products — generally depicting tranquil scenes with lush landscaping and streams running nearby. Many contain images from Bible passages.
Kinkade was known for being an extremely conservative Christian activist, but he was also known as crude drunk driving alcoholic who would grab at women's breasts and heckle other artists at their shows. He was also fond of "marking his territory" by pissing on the work of others. Like the time he urinated on a Disneyland Winnie The Pooh statue while shouting, "This one's for you, Walt!" Unlike his work, the dude was not boring.

Jake Shears At Blowoff NYC

Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears (left) dropped in at Blowoff NYC last night for some dancing with the bears and a chat with his pal DJ Rich Morel (right). The brand new Scissor Sisters track had only seen its global debut hours earlier on BBC 1, but luckily Jake had the single on his phone. One patch cord later and the entire room was jumping to Only The Horses. Technology is grand!

FLASHBACK: I think I first met Jake five years ago when we were both on the bill at Reading For Filth. He looks younger today than he did then. I've gone completely bald. How does that work?

Shirley Bassey, Nancy Sinatra, Lulu....

Rumors are flying that Adele has signed to record the next James Bond title song. And when you think about it, who else could it possibly be?
Adele has told a French radio station she will have a new single out by the end of the year, but her next album will take "a good two years" to record. The news will fuel speculation that the artist will record the theme tune to the latest Bond movie, Skyfall. She has been the bookmakers' favourite since last year, but no official announcement has been made. Speaking to France's NRJ, the singer added she needed to find time to write the follow-up to her hit record, 21. "If I didn't write my own songs, I'd be out next week with a new album," she said. "I have to take time and live a little bit.
What's your favorite Bond song? Of the 23 films, only seven of the series' iconic title tracks made the U.S. Top 40. Carly Simon's Nobody Does It Better was one of the bigger chart hits, spending a few weeks at #2. Another that topped out at #2 was Paul McCartney & Wings' barn-burner, Live And Let Die. And it was Duran Duran's A View To A Kill that was the only Bond song to reach #1. But for me (and for many of you, I suspect), it is Shirley Bassey's 1964 trademark song, Goldfinger, which reached #8, that defines the Bond music oeuvre.

Zach Wahls: The Outspoken Generation

A new video series from the Family Equality Council:
Family Equality Council Executive Director Jennifer Chrisler said the program was borne out of conversations with LGBT families over the last year. However, she said the need for the initiative became increasingly clear following recent news that the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) considered a strategy of recruiting the children of LGBT parents to criticize their own families. It’s clear that NOM will stop at nothing in their efforts to demonize LGBT parents, and their malicious attempts to spread misinformation about these families will not go unanswered.

“We are now seeing the first generation of children, who were lovingly raised by LGBT parents, coming into young adulthood,” said Chrisler. “We know, from our conversations with these young people and from our experience with them, that they are terrific kids who are thriving and succeeding in life by any measure you choose to use. Many of them are now telling us that they are eager to tell the truth about their families. Who better to refute the myths and lies of hate groups like NOM than our grown up children?”

Malaysia Bans Gay TV Characters

The Malaysian government has banned television shows that feature gay characters.
Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Maglin confirmed [the ban]. He said the ban was effective immediately but would only start with state-owned TV and radio stations. "If it means cancelling some of the shows, so be it," he told The Star Friday, adding that the decision was to curb the "influence" of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. He also said the decision will be expanded to cover privately-owned stations as well as satellite TV providers. As for foreign productions, he said the Censorship Board will remove episodes from running TV shows and bar movies with gay characters from being screened locally.
Maglin also said that shows hosted by effeminate men may continue because "they are born this way."

British Prime Minister Thanked For Gay Marriage Stance While Obama Listens

This happened during at a White House state dinner last month but we're just now hearing about it.
“Mr. Prime Minister, thank you for all that you’re doing for marriage equality in Great Britain,” the guest said to Cameron, who was standing to Obama’s right, literally and figuratively. With a gesture towards the president, Cameron replied, “It takes a conservative to convince a liberal about gay marriage.” [snip] If actions speak louder than words, then there should be no doubt where Obama stands on marriage equality. But for many, until the words of the president of the United States match his actions, he’ll remain on the wrong side of history and to the right of Cameron.

Rep. Allen West On CNN: Don't Take Us Down That Rabbit Hole Of Gay Marriage

Tea Party darling Rep. Allen West backed off from his earlier denouncements of LGBT rights today, telling CNN that same-sex marriage is unimportant compared to the economy.

RELATED: In August last year West said that people choose and change their sexual orientation as easily as selecting a flavor of ice cream.
"I like chocolate chip ice cream, and I will continue to like chocolate chip ice cream. So there's no worry about me changing to vanilla. I like to, you know, ride my motorcycle. WASHINGTON: Catholic Archdiocese Launches Marriage Repeal Petition Drive

The Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle has launched a drive to distribute petitions in support of placing a repeal of same-sex marriage on the November ballot.
“Treating different things differently is not unjust discrimination,” the bishops claim. “Marriage can only be between a man and a woman because of its unique ends, purpose and place in society. The word ‘marriage’ isn’t simply a label that can be attached to different types of relationships. “Instead ‘marriage’ reflects a deep reality — the reality of the unique, fruitful, lifelong union that is only possible between a man and a woman. There is nothing else like it, and it can’t be defined or made into something that it isn’t.” State Sen. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, a Catholic and long-partnered gay man who sponsored the same-sex marriage bill, described the bishops’ deployment of parishes to gather signatures as “fairly reprehensible.” “To use church resources, in advancing a measure that promotes discrimination, is incredibly disappointing,” Murray said. “As a gay person, and a Catholic, I can understand their refusal to perform (gay) marriages. Using the church in promoting a referendum . . . is very disappointing.”
Archbishop J. Peter Sartain (above), took time out of enabling pedophiles to ask that parishioners not distribute the petitions on Easter. Because that would be unholy.

NOM Hates Easter Sacrilege!

Therefore we love it:
On the eve of Easter, a religious group is coming down hard on the Fells Point bar Ale Mary's. Why? Well, its name for starters. And all of the other things the church-themed bar does for kitsch value. They decorate with photos of nuns. They post their draft list on a hymn board. They offer Father Luies Grilled Wings and Father Tom's Fried Ice Cream Sundae. And, possibly their most serious transgression according to the group: the bar's "chalice" club where people can get their beer served in a chalice. The group 500,000 Against Ale Mary's* isn't amused. In fact, they're highly offended.

RUSSIA: Activists Arrested For Violating St. Petersburg Ban On Homosexuality

Spiegel Online has the story:
For the first time, police in St. Petersburg, Russia, have made arrests on the strength of a new law banning the dissemination of information on homo-, bi- and transsexuality. Two men were arrested in the city center on Thursday after holding up a sign reading "Homosexuality Is Normal," according to the newswire Interfax. Russia's second-largest city passed the controversial law on Feb. 29. The two men now face a possible maximum fine of 500,000 rubles (€12,800/$17,000). The maximum penalty is more than the average annual income in Russia.
Huge props to our brave Russian counterparts.

Brian Brown Vs Log Cabin Republicans

"NOM did not create the divide between blacks and homosexual marriage advocates, and standing for marriage is not standing for division or discrimination. Nor is it patronizing for media leaders to treat the heroic stand of the black church against homosexual marriage as a product of hateful politics. Reaching out to blacks and Hispanics who share our view is something conservatives do and should do more of. NOM will continue to reach out to these communities. The current round of media attacks on NOM for a single line in a 3-year-old document reflects the basic tactic of the political left: Use government to push a new moral norm, and when Americans with more traditional values object, attack them mercilessly, then blame conservatives (especially Christian conservatives) for being 'divisive.' Their end game? Silencing the voices of millions of Americans." - Brian Brown, writing for the Washington Times in response to this week's essay by LCR head R. Clarke Cooper, who called NOM "a cancer that needs to be removed."

NOTE: It's amusing to watch NOM simultaneously stand by their race-baiting AND dismiss it as a "single line in a three year-old document." And it was much, much more than a single line, as we all know.

Church Sign Of The Day

This sign has gone viral in the past couple of days and has even appeared on Glenn Beck's "news" site The Blaze:
While the message may be a tough pill to swallow for some Christians who believe that non-belief is a tragic societal occurrence — even more tragic than Christians behaving badly — Kay Pettygrove, an administrator at the church, says that positivity has been the predominate sentiment. Pettygrove claims that there has been 30 positive comments for each negative one and says that the church is “flabbergasted” over the response. “I got an email from a young Mormon man saying, ‘Thank you so much. It made me rethink how I treat people,’” she explains. “Many atheists have said, ‘If there were more churches like yours, we would probably reconsider.’”

MARYLAND: Court Of Appeals To Hear Same-Sex Divorce Case Today

Maryland's Court Of Appeals will today hear the case of two lesbians who were legally married in California, yet denied a divorce in their home state.
A Maryland judge declined to grant their divorce in 2010, basing his decision on the conclusion that their marriage is not valid under Maryland law. But lawyers for the women disagree, saying the state should recognize gay marriages performed elsewhere. They married in California. The high court's decision may have limited effect since same-sex weddings — and, by extension, divorces — are set to start in the state in January 2013 under a law passed this year. But opponents of the new law are seeking to overturn it in a potential voter referendum.
Representing one of the women is famed NCLR attorney Shannon Minter.

Bully Has Been Re-Rated PG-13

While some theaters have agreed to run the film without a rating, yesterday word came that Bully has been re-rated PG-13, a move made without cutting what some consider the film's most crucial scene. The film studio exults via press release:
This decision by the MPAA is a huge victory for the parents, educators, lawmakers, and most importantly, children, everywhere who have been fighting for months for the appropriate PG-13 rating without cutting some of the most sensitive moments. Three uses of the 'F word' were removed from other scenes, which ultimately persuaded the MPAA to lower the rating. Hirsch made the documentary with the intent to give an uncensored, real-life portrayal of what 13 million children suffer through every year.
The re-rating came after hundreds of thousands signed an internet petition to the MPAA.

Jimmy Carter Is Evil For Accepting Gays

"We are commanded to spread the gospel for the salvation of many. I know this hasn’t been a big part of Jimmy Carter’s life. But it remains the unequivocal, central role of the Christian in the world. We’re not supposed to just live and let live – because to do that actually means death for those we don’t confront with their sin and the salvation message. [snip] This is why I call Jimmy Carter a truly evil person. He still tries to masquerade as a Christian, though his views are increasingly heretical if not those of an apostate. Jesus says when judgment day comes, there will be some He turns away, even though they claim to have prophesied in His name." - Three-time Just For Men gold medalist and World Net Daily founder Joseph Farah, writing about Jimmy Carter's recent endorsement of same-sex marriage.

Dan Choi May Represent Himself

Dan Choi has dismissed his lawyers and says he may represent himself in the case which he hopes will wind up before the U.S. Supreme Court. Choi was arrested in late 2010 for handcuffing himself to the White House fence, an action he says is protected by the First Amendment. Lou Chibarro reports at Washington Blade:
“I think for activists, especially for people who protest at the public square, there’s no more powerful thing and there’s no greater empowering moment than to stand before the judge and let them hear your own voice,” Choi said. He said he’s weighing whether to appeal his own case to the Supreme Court to challenge a procedural ruling preventing him from arguing at trial that he was targeted for “vindictive” or “selective” prosecution. If the Supreme Court were to refuse to take his case or if he forgoes that appeal, his trial, which began in August 2011, would resume in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
The other activists arrested with Choi all agreed to plead guilty and were freed without jail time.

Evil Lying Left-Wing Media Is Trying To Destroy NOM By Quoting Them Verbatim!

"Gay marriage activists are on the attack like never before. And it's getting personal. They are targeting NOM and have pulled out the race card in a desperate attempt to shut us down in this critical election year. Why? Because they know that our coalition is strong and growing, and NOM has become the single biggest obstacle in their campaign to force same-sex marriage on every American state, county and municipality.

"The latest barrage came Tuesday from the Gray Lady herself, when The New York Times editorial board charged NOM with employing a 'poisonous political approach' based on 'racially and ethnically divisive strategies' to block same-sex marriage. It's laughable. As if NOM would presume to tell Black and Hispanic pastors what God says about marriage. NOM didn't create this issue. The African American and Hispanic communities have always opposed same-sex marriage. It is the gay marriage activists and Democratic party elites who have forced the issue, ignoring the voices of Black and Hispanic voters." - Brian Brownshirt, in today's beg for money.

Sharpen Your Steel: Christian Boot Camp

Christian men, pick up your swords!
Why is speaking the truth so hard to do? Why do Christian men apologize for what the Bible teaches? Wasn’t it Paul who asked “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?" I say it is time Christian-men grew some stones. Rush called the Georgetown law-student a slut. He apologized for it. But what he said was truthful. Why do we cow-tow to the evil? What do we permit haters of God to dictate how we represent Jesus? Franklin Graham questioned the President’s Christianity. The God-haters bellowed until Rev. Graham caved. The God-haters demand he apologize for defending the faith. Buckling under to their bullying is not Christian.

ANCHORAGE: Anti-Gay Group May Have Caused Legit Voters To Be Turned Away

Yesterday we learned that Anchorage's anti-gay coalition of Christian churches encouraged its supporters to vote illegally against the proposed ballot measure that would have granted housing and job protections to LGBT residents. But did that dirty trick also cause polls to run out of ballots and turn away legitimate voters?
Initial reports Tuesday linked the ballot shortages with an erroneous email from Proposition 5 opponent Jim Minnery (PDF) with the group Protect Your Rights, claiming people could register and vote at the same polling place on Election Day or vote in precincts other than their own. “We want to reassure voters who ended up voting questioned ballots because of the shortage that their vote counts,” officials wrote. “Voters who were properly registered at least 30 days before the election and qualified to vote will have their vote counted in accordance with the law. However, voters who registered to vote yesterday will likely not have their votes counted. We are currently aware of only 121 voters who registered yesterday.”

Gruenstein’s office also said that it would not be able to respond to requests for information "on an ongoing basis," and instead would send out press releases as information became available. Connie Sumida, an election precinct leader at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Mountain View, told Channel 2 she was informed by a supervisor that some polling places closed before the official 8 p.m. closure of polls. She said election workers at St. Anthony’s were forced to make copies of the front cover of their last ballot -- a two-sided document -- and make do. In an interview, Sumida said it was an “atrocity” for polling places to run out of ballots, and that Tuesday’s election should be “thrown out.”

NOM: We Demand The Feds Investigate HRC For Stealing Our Tax Return

NOM president Brian Brownshirt is demanding a federal investigation of the Human Rights Campaign for what he claims is the theft of the hate group's 2008 tax return.
Last week the publication posted a copy of NOM's federal tax return for 2008 (Form 990—Schedule B) listing its major donors, which is a confidential document filed only with the IRS. The tax return listed the names and addresses of dozens of NOM's major donors in 2008. All of this information is submitted to the IRS on a confidential basis and is not available for lawful public disclosure.

"It appears that someone with either the IRS or the HRC may have committed a federal crime by illegally obtaining and then releasing a confidential tax return of the National Organization for Marriage," said Brian Brown, NOM's president. "It's clear that the tax return was stolen, either from NOM or from the government. The Huffington Post article says that HRC claimed they received the document from a ‘whistleblower.' But the term ‘whistleblower' is completely inapt. We're talking about a criminal who has stolen confidential tax return information. We demand to know who this criminal is, whether they work for the HRC or the IRS, and how they obtained confidential tax information filed only with the US government."
Brownshirt claims that names and addresses which are normally redacted from publicly released tax documents were included on the version obtained by the HRC.

ACT UP To Return To Wall Street

ACT UP announces via press release:
To commemorate its 25th anniversary, the AIDS activist group ACT UP will return to its roots and stage a massive demonstration and march on Wall Street — on Wednesday, April 25 — starting at 11 am at City Hall and ending on Wall Street. Hundreds of protestors are expected to converge for a daylong siege in Lower Manhattan.

ACT UP (The AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) will be joined by Occupy Wall Street (OWS), the organization making history this year and last with its public encampments and series of protests against the global financial community. The groups are joining forces to pump up the volume on a growing nationwide outcry for a "Financial Speculation Tax" (Fi.S.T.) on Wall Street.

The groups are calling on local, state, and federal legislators to "give Wall Street the FiST," which is needed to fill AIDS funding gaps and — once and for all — provide universal healthcare in the US. It’s time for effective healthcare to be made available to everyone — to the 99%, not just the 1%.

She missed scoring a No. 1 in the 1990s, remarkably, but she did claim five No. 2 albums in that decade with "I'm Breathless," "The Immaculate Collection," "Erotica," the "Evita" soundtrack and "Ray of Light."

Game Maker Backs LGBT Content

The religious right is continuing their onslaught against video game maker Electronic Arts, deluging the company with thousands of letters complaining about the option of creating gay characters in its latest Star Wars release. But company officials are thumbing their nose at the attack.
"Every one of EA's games includes ESRB content descriptors so it's hard to believe anyone is surprised by the content. This isn't about protecting children, it's about political harassment. EA has not been pressured by any groups to include LGBT characters in our games. However, we have met with LBGT groups and sponsored industry forums to discuss content and harassment of players in online forums. In short, we do put options for same-sex relationships in our games; we don't tolerate hate speech on our forums."
While Tony Perkins and the FRC have issued press releases that denounce EA, the company notes that most of the complaining letters are coming via the Florida Family Council, who last month issued a complaint which included a mocking image of Darth RuPaula, an action figure we'd actually love to have.

Women & Children First

A Christian group is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Because allowing men to drown instead of women and children was Godly. Oh, and the famed movie? Totally Marxist.
“Regrettably, popular books and films such as James Cameron’s box-office smash have portrayed a false image of Marxist class-warfare as Titanic foundered, with the rich seeking to bribe their way to freedom, the poor deliberately prevented from reaching safety, and the nobility of Christian sacrifice minimized and ridiculed,” Phillips observed. “Such depictions are historical nonsense. Titanic 100 is an international event designed to set the record straight by celebrating the true legacy of the men of Titanic who gave their lives for women and children.”
The celebration, amusingly, takes place in Branson, Missouri.

Bryan Fischer: Romney Will Lose

"If Romney is the nominee, Barack Obama will be the odds-on favorite win another term in the White House. Polls already show dismal unfavorability numbers for Romney, and show Obama with significant leads in almost all the swing states. Romney's unfavorability ratings are essentially the same this year as they were in 2008, an indication he simply has trouble connecting with voters of any stripe. In particular, Romney is upside down by double digits with independents and moderates, which pretty much shreds the ruling-class Republican argument about electability to pieces. If Obama wins on November 6, it might behoove pro-family leaders to meet with Rick Perry on November 7 and start strategizing for 2016." - AFA radio host Bryan Fischer, who says the only hope for the GOP is to create "absolute, utter, total gridlock" in the Congress.
