Posted Today On Christwire

From today's top story on Christwire:
Hell hath no spitfire like a lisping gay scorned, so it’s no surprise today to see legions of gays angrily sassafrasshing and sashaying all around their demigod Joe My God in heated fury and trying to scratch the skin off GOP Presidential Candidate Herman Cain. For years now gays have tried to become the new black. If you listen to their political rhetoric, it is focused on becoming the ‘scapegoated victim’ of America when in reality it is the knuckleclenched-up-the-intestines reverse ploy opposite. Gays are trying to sodomize the morality of America, trying to make us feel deep guilt that we stand against a woman having her privates mangled until it resembles a proper pickler, the surgery being shown at “Family Time Hours” on MSNBC.

FINALLY: Potties For OWS

After 54 days, the protesters in Manhattan's Zuccotti Park finally have potties.
Despite denials of permits by the City, Occupy Wall Street participants have worked diligently with the help of local officials to secure 24/7 access to toilets within reasonable distance of Liberty Square. Starting today, OWS is providing access to porta-potties in a private, well-lit space with 24-hour security, only 2 blocks away from the square. The portable toilets will be maintained by a professional service, and OWS volunteers are blanketing Liberty Square with fliers directing people to the facilities.
Prior to today, protesters have relied upon the increasingly put-upon fast food outlets that ring the park.

Family Research Council Honors Deadbeat Dad Rep. Joe Walsh As "Pro-Family"

The Family Research Council has named Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) as their "True Blue" pro-family leader, even though Walsh owes over $100,000 in unpaid child support.
"We thank Cong. Walsh who has voted consistently to defend faith, family and freedom,” said FRCA President Tony Perkins. “Cong. Walsh and other ‘True Blue Members’ have voted to repeal Obamacare, de-fund Planned Parenthood, end government funding for abortion within the health care law, uphold the Defense of Marriage Act, and continue support for school choice. I applaud their commitment to uphold the institutions of marriage and family."
Walsh responded to the honor by crowing, "Defending American values have always been one of my top priorities, and this reward reaffirms my dedication to that fight."

NOM's Brian Brownshirt Praises Michigan Law To Legalize Anti-Gay Bullying

"Are some major political players openly now asserting that protecting gay children from bullying—a worthy goal—requires giving the government the right to prohibit thoughtful and civil expressions of religious or moral viewpoints? What would become of our democracy if we accepted this reckless premise? I hope Michigan's effort to civilize children by repressing bullying becomes a landmark of a new effort to genuinely address the legitimate concerns of parents—including parents with gay teens—without heavy-handed use of government power to repress and exclude Christian views on sex and marriage." - NOM president Brian Brown, applauding the Michigan state Senate for approving a bill which allows bullying which has a "religious or moral" purpose.

SPAIN: Ricky Martin Granted Citizenship In Possible Bid To Legally Marry

Spain has granted citizenship to Puerto Rico-born Ricky Martin, who may be seeking a legal venue to marry his boyfriend.
Spokesman Jose Blanco told a news conference that ministers had agreed to grant him a “letter of naturalization”, issued in special circumstances, because of his “personal and professional links with Spain”. Spanish newspaper El Pais reported that Martin sought citizenship in order to marry boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez Abella, with whom he is bringing up his twin three-year-old sons. Spain passed legislation allowing same-sex marriages in 2005, only the third country to do so at the time, with 20,000 gay couples entering into marriage since.

Andy Rooney Dies At 92

The New York Times reports:
Andy Rooney, whose prickly wit was long a mainstay of CBS News and whose homespun commentary on “60 Minutes,” delivered every week from 1978 until 2011, made him a household name, died Friday in New York City. He was 92 and lived in Manhattan, though he kept a family vacation home in Rensselaerville, N.Y., and the first home he ever purchased, in Rowayton, Conn. Concerned Women Are Concernstipated About Free Diapers For Poor Families

"There already are programs in place through welfare that actually do provide for the very indigent and that's important, but this was a giveaway through daycare centers and really a bail-out for daycare centers -- and we just strongly believe that this is inappropriate. I call that cheap grace. You're meeting one little issue, but there's an overall issue that is requiring these folks to so desperately need diapers that they're either taking a government hand-out or calling at the ninth hour." - CWA president Penny Nance, who doesn't want the government providing free diapers to the impoverished.

NEW JERSEY: Superior Court Judge Allows Marriage Equality Lawsuit To Proceed

A New Jersey Superior Court judge today granted permission for Lambda Legal to proceed with its marriage equality lawsuit on behalf of Garden State Equality and seven same-sex couples. Via press release:
"We are delighted that the New Jersey Superior Court will allow this case to continue and permit us to demonstrate how the legislature's crafting of a status other than marriage for same-sex couples has failed to provide them the equality promised by the New Jersey Constitution. Civil union relegates New Jersey's same-sex couples to a second-class status that keeps them and their families vulnerable," said Hayley Gorenberg, Lambda Legal Deputy Legal Director.

"By moving to dismiss, the government was trying to prevent us from showing exactly how the current classification system based on sexual orientation harms families. New Jersey’s exclusion interferes during medical crises, denies them health insurance, and leads to discrimination against them even in funeral homes. These families need marriage equality and should not have to live with a law that treats them as inferior."
The judge's ruling squashed the attempt by the state Attorney General to have the case dismissed entirely.

ILLINOIS: Complaints Filed Against Two Inns For Refusing Civil Union Events

Windy City Times reports that formal complaints have been lodged against two Illinois bed-and-breakfast inns for refusing to host civil union ceremonies.
Todd and Mark Wathen of Mattoon, Ill., allege that both the Timber Creek Bed and Breakfast and Beall Mansion Bed and Breakfast discriminated against them by refusing to host their legally recognized ceremony. The Wathen's attorneys—Betty Tsamis of Chicago, and John Knight and Harvey Grossman of the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois—announced the filing Nov. 2 in a news release. In August, the Department of Human Rights announced it had found "substantial evidence" supporting their claims and gave the couple three months to file complaints. According to the complaints, filed individually on behalf of both Mark and Todd, the Wathens inquired with the inns in February, in anticipation of having a ceremony when civil unions went into effect in June. Both of the inns turned them away, they said.
The couple is requesting monetary damages and an end to the discriminatory practices.

Architect Of Anti-Gay State Amendments Named To Out Magazine's "Out 100"

Because Ken Mehlman finally came out as a millionaire gay banker and then played a "quietly instrumental role" in New York's marriage equality battle, the folks at Out Magazine have forgiven his days as the head of the Republican National Committee, where he orchestrated numerous successful statewide campaigns to demonize and make illegal the lives and loves of LGBT people.

For all those millions of people made miserable by Ken Mehlman? Forgiven. The kids who killed themselves because of relentlessly vicious campaigns spawned by Ken Mehlman? Forgotten. The anti-gay politicians funded last year by Ken Mehlman? Ignored.

UPDATE: On their blog, Out Magazine notes this post and asks for feedback.
"We also announced Tom Duane and Daniel O'Donnell, two politicians essential in the fight for same-sex marriage in New York State. Should we only recognize the steadfastly positive and not the ones who may have a more complicated track record?"
UPDATE II: The Advocate (Out's sister publication) notes this post and quotes Out editor Aaron Hicklin.
Hicklin contends that Mehlman, and people like him, are necessary to advance marriage equality nationwide. "He is a savvy political operator, and we need people with his experience and influence to help our fight," Hicklin said. "I expected his inclusion to elicit some protests, but ultimately it’s up to readers themselves to decide how they feel about his record. The media’s role is to provoke conversation, and in this we clearly succeeded."

Did He Jump Or Was He Pushed?

Yesterday the Archdiocese of Boston retracted and apologized for their newspaper article claiming that gay people are created by Satan. Today comes word that the author of that piece has "resigned." David Avila was the official defender of marriage for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Watch for Avila to land at NOM any minute.

REACTIONS...

Human Rights Campaign:
"Mr. Avila’s dangerous view that Satan causes people to become gay has no place in any credible news publication, whether it be mainstream or religious press. He ignored not only the widely accepted science that same-sex attraction is normal, but also the modern thinking of many religions. I am pleased the Conference of Catholic Bishops accepted his resignation and I ask them to speak up and denounce his dangerous rhetoric.”
Truth Wins Out:
"Daniel Avila's column was hurtful and deeply offensive so we are grateful he quickly resigned," said Wayne Besen, executive director for Truth Wins Out. "Demonizing never creates a healthy dialogue and Avila represented a major obstacle to the church's claim to respect all people."

FRC's Peter Sprigg To Join NARTH's Luggage Lifters At Phoenix Confab

NARTH's annual convention of closeted gays and open fascists takes place in Phoenix this weekend where they'll be joined by Family Research Council spokesbigot Peter Sprigg. Last year gay activists had a blast picketing outside of the NARTH convention in Philadelphia as we marched around with pink luggage in mockery of FRC co-founder George Rekers' exposure as a patron of young, lithe, Latino male prostitutes. I especially enjoyed chasing a few of NARTH's douchebags out to their cars as they sputtered and flitted their dainty "ex-gay" paws at my homofascist camera.

RELATED: After Rekers was exposed as a fan of erotic nude male massage, his name vanished from FRC's website as Tony Perkins pretended to have no memory of the man who co-founded his organization.

TAKE ACTION: There will be a local counter-protest of NARTH's convention this weekend.
Over the course of two days during the NARTH convention, a collective of organizations and individuals -- including No Longer Silent: Clergy for Justice, Human & Equal Rights Organizers (H.E.R.O.), and Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) of Phoenix -- will host press conferences, presentations, protests, and discussions during an “alternative convention” at the Phoenix Airport Marriott Hotel – the same venue as the NARTH convention

Google To Trawl Web Comments

According to Web Monkey, a new Google algorithm will connect your name to comments made on blog posts, web articles, and Facebook pages.
The new indexing plan isn’t just about Facebook comments, but applies to nearly any content that’s previously been accessible only through an HTTP POST request. Google’s goal is to include anything “hiding” behind a form — comment systems like Disqus or Facebook and other JavaScript-based sites and forms. Typically when Google announces it’s going to expand its search index in some way everyone is happy — sites get more searchable content into Google and users can find more of what they’re looking for — but that’s not the case with the latest changes to Google’s indexing policy. Developers are upset because Google is no longer the passive crawler it once was and users will likely become upset once they realize that comments about drunken parties, embarrassing moments or what they thought were private details are going to start showing up next to their names in Google’s search results.
A commenter notes on the above-linked article: "So in a nutshell, Google is going to publicly display public messages I intentionally left in a public place? I like privacy as much as the next guy, but in this case I can't imagine how any semi-intelligent person could have had a reasonable expectation of privacy in the first place."

Admiral, There Be Whales Here

Clip description:
A woman floating on a surfboard near Santa Cruz, California almost ended up on the lunch menu for a humpback whale over the weekend. Barb Roettger had her camera rolling as two hefty whales popped out of the calm waters not far from the unsuspecting surfer and a pair of kayakers. A pod of humpback whales has been hanging out off the Santa Cruz coast, noshing on anchovies that flock to the area to feed on plankton. The woman found herself in the middle of a feeding frenzy called lunge feeding, which occurs when whales herd anchovies and shoot straight up out of the water with their mouth wide open to catch the fish.
YouTube commenters point out that humpbacks don't have teeth and the woman was in no danger of actually being eaten.

Undercover Cops To Work SF Bars

This weekend undercover San Francisco cops will be working the bars of the Castro in a campaign to stem a renewed wave of pick-pocketing incidents.
San Francisco Police Sergeant Chuck Limbert, Mission Station's liaison to the LGBT community, said the operation would begin this week, but he wouldn't specify when. Officers would be "specifically looking for individuals that target bars for theft of property or criminal activity," such as pickpockets and purse snatchers, he said. He said the operation would continue "until the problem is solved." Limbert said overall crime in the area is down over the last three years, but he wants to see further decline. "If we're getting two reports out of a bar on a specific night, that's two too many," he said. Limbert acknowledged Castro bar-goers might be nervous about undercover police visiting nightspots, but he suggested that would be good in the case of people with nefarious intentions.
Unsurprisingly, bar managers report that the most-stolen items are iPhones.

LaSalvia goes on to express outrage that anybody would suspect that either he or GOProud member Taylor Garrett had staged the hate crimes both allegedly suffered. Garrett claimed to have had a rock thrown though his window during the launch week of his Logo reality series A-List: Dallas. LaSalvia claimed to have scared off a group of black teenaged would-be gay-bashers by pretending to have a gun. The Village Voice's Steven Thrasher notes that the half-built One World Trade is (for the moment) providing New Yorkers with a spooky flashback as viewed from uptown with the Trump Soho tower.
Of course, these towers are much lower than the original twin towers. The Trump SoHo is only 46 stories, and it's not even that close to the WTC site. But for the next couple of weeks, while One World Trade stays at this height, the scale of the two of them next to each other is quite reminiscent of what we recall the old World Trade Center looking like from this intersection a decade ago.

Ten With Ten Or More

Rihanna has just her scored eleventh pop chart topper, prompting an update in Billboard's list of acts with ten or more #1 pop singles.

1. Beatles - 20
2. Mariah Carey - 18
3. Elvis Presley- 17
4. Michael Jackson - 13
5. Madonna - 12
6. The Supremes - 12
7. Whitney Houston - 11
8. Rihanna - 11
9. Janet Jackson - 10
10. Stevie Wonder - 10

NOTE: Paul McCartney has nine additional #1 singles as a member of Wings and as a part of duets with Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. Similarly, Diana Ross had six number one pop singles as a solo act.

ALSO NOTE: Mariah Carey's initial string of consecutive #1 singles is highly questioned by some, as at the time she was romantically involved with Sony president Tommy Mottola, who dumped millions of Carey's singles into the retail market at hugely discounted prices. Those singles often sold for 99 cents at retail when other releases were selling for three to four times that much.

WISCONSIN: State Senate Passes Abstinence Education Bill

The GOP-dominated Wisconsin Senate has passed a bill ordering teachers to downplay any mention of contraception in sex education classes. Because the only thing you need to know is "God hates fucking."
The new GOP-backed legislation would not ban teachers from discussing contraceptives, but would demand they stress abstaining from sex the only reliable way to avoid sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. We believe that God disapproves of and forbids any attempt to alter one’s gender by surgery or appearance.

MI Senate Legalizes Anti-Gay Bullying

Michigan's state Senate has passed an anti-bullying law which contains a GOP mandated exemption for bullying which has a "religious or moral basis." And that has infuriated the father of the dead child for whom the bill is named.
"Matt's Safe School Law" passed 26-11 with all Democrats voting against it. The bill is named for Matt Eppling, an East Lansing 14-year-old who committed suicide after being bullied by classmates in 2002. The law includes a section noting it doesn't abridge First Amendment free speech rights or prohibit expression of religious or moral viewpoints — a provision Democrats fear could be used to justify harassment of gay, lesbian or transgender students. "I am ashamed that this could be Michigan's bill on anti-bullying when in fact it is a 'bullying is OK in Michigan law,'" Kevin Eppling, Matt's father, whose letter was read by Sen. Glenn Anderson during Wednesday's session.

NOM Hires Tea Party Lawyer Cleta Mitchell In Battle To Evade MN Campaign Laws

NOM has hired notorious Tea Party attorney Cleta Mitchell in their battle to evade Minnesota's campaign finance disclosure laws.
Mitchell registered as a lobbyist with the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board last Wednesday, according to board records. She’s the only lobbyist that NOM has currently registered in Minnesota, although NOM President Brian Brown was registered for a month earlier this year. Mitchell is a rising star in conservative politics, mainly for her efforts in opposing campaign finance laws and helping candidates and groups exploit loopholes in existing laws.
Mitchell has already written a letter to Minnesota's election board in which she claims that rabid homofascists will physically attack innocent Christians should their anti-gay donations be made public. Mitchell: "This regulatory scheme is unlawful, is not constitutionally sound, threatens NOM members, donors and supporters with personal injury and harm and the Board should cease immediately its efforts to rewrite Minnesota law to achieve this unlawful purpose."

RELATED: You may recall that Mitchell spearheaded the failed attempt to repeal same-sex marriage in Washington DC. She also led a CPAC walk-out over the attendance of GOProud.

Yoga Is From Satan

"Whether they know it or not, Christians who engage in yoga are participating in a religious expression that is antithetical to Christianity. The act itself is a worship act. Subsequently, it cannot be done in a way that is not spiritual." - Pastor Mark Driscoll of Seattle's Mars Hill Church. TODAY: Senate Begins DOMA Debate

Today the Senate Judiciary Committee begins debate on the Respect For Marriage Act, which would repeal DOMA. First to comment this morning is Freedom To Marry:
“Today is another step toward restoration of the traditional practice of having the federal government respect marriages lawfully celebrated by the states – and eliminating the gay exception that unfairly denies that equal treatment to loving and committed couples who have gotten legally married,” said Evan Wolfson, founder and President of Freedom to Marry. “As the Senate Judiciary Committee considers this bill, we urge members to take into account the real harms families face because of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act, and the burdens this departure from the usual way the federal government honors marriages imposes on businesses, employers, and others dealing with married couples.”
As I've noted here several times, a repeal of DOMA in the Senate would only be a moral victory as the bill has zero chance of advancing in the GOP-dominated House. Nevertheless, we shall closely track the Senate debate.

GHANA: President Denounces British Threat To Cut Aid Over Gay Rights

Vowing that he will "never legalize homosexuality," the president of Ghana is blasting British Prime Minister David Cameron, who last month threatened to cut aid to nations that abuse their LGBT citizens.
The Ghanaian President John Atta Mills has reacted angrily UK’s threat to cut bilateral aid if the country refuses to legalise homosexuality. He said the UK did not have the right to “direct to other sovereign nations as to what they should do”, saying their society’s “norms” were different from those in the UK. Mr Atta Mills told the BBC: “I, as president, will never initiate or support any attempt to legalise homosexuality in Ghana.” The British Prime Minister raised the issue of gay rights and bilateral aid at a Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Australia.
Gay activists in Ghana and elsewhere have warned that Cameron's cuts could result in local retribution against the LGBT community. British gay activist Peter Tatchell weighs in: “Instead of cutting aid, Britain and other donor countries should divert their aid money from human rights abusing governments and redirect it to grassroots, community-based humanitarian projects that respect human rights and do not discriminate in their service provision."

BOSTON: Catholic Archdiocese Retracts "Gays Are From Satan" Newspaper Story

The Archdiocese of Boston has retracted its column claiming that gay people are created by Satan. (On Monday that column was excerpted here on JMG.) The article was written by David Avila, the policy advisor for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops' Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage.
The 182-year-old newspaper withdrew the column from its website on Wednesday, saying it had failed to recognize the "theological error" before publication. It posted an apology from Avila saying the column didn't represent the position of the Conference of Catholic Bishops, whose stated purpose is to "promote the greater good which the Church offers humankind," and wasn't authorized for publication. Avila said he deeply apologized for the "hurt and confusion" the column caused. Archdiocesan officials said Avila's apology would appear in the issue of The Pilot to be published this week, The Boston Globe reported. The Boston archdiocese, the bishops' group and Avila were involved in communications leading to the decision to retract the column, said archdiocese spokesman Terrence Donilon, who called Avila "passionate about his faith and passionate about his church."

Herman Cain: Rick Perry Ratted Me Out

Three hours after a desperate fund-raising plea which blamed racist liberals for his own sex scandal, Herman Cain now says it was Texas Gov. Rick Perry that ratted him out.
The Cain campaign points to longtime GOP consultant Curt Anderson, who worked for Cain's failed 2004 U.S. Senate bid and was debriefed on the harassment allegations by Cain himself. Anderson now works for Perry. And Chris Wilson, a former pollster for the restaurant association, said Wednesday he witnessed Cain's alleged inappropriate behavior. He's now involved with a pro-Perry super political action committee.

Both men deny leaking the story and the Perry aides says the first they learned about it was this week in the press. But Cain's team isn't buying it and demands an apology. "This is one of the actions in America that is the reason why people don't get involved in politics," Mark Block, chief of staff to Cain's campaign, said in an exclusive interview with Fox News' Special Report. "The actions of the Perry campaign are despicable." "Rick Perry and his campaign owe Herman Cain and his family an apology," Block said.
Oh, the hilarity. No retraction of the "racist liberals" claim, but suddenly Cain wants a fucking apology from Rick Perry. Stop, my sides! No, really. Stop.

FRC: Ask God To Stop Gay Parenting

The fascist pigs at the Family Research Council want its followers to beg God to destroy gay families.
May God intervene and stir Americans to resist and stop this effort to advance the radical homosexual agenda and literally to possess our nation's children. May God open our eyes! (Gen 1:26-28; 2:21-24; Lev 18:22-30; Dt 26:7-8; Pr 28:4; Lk 17:1-2; Acts 5:29; Eph 5:31-6:4)
Today's prayer was prompted by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand's federal bill that would legalize gay adoption nationwide. The FRC rants:
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) has introduced the Every Child Deserves A Family Act. The Act would end all federal funding for adoption agencies that refuse to place children in LGBT "families." It will punish public and private agencies that act on their view that traditionally married couples are the best candidates to adopt. It will trounce on adoption agencies in the 31 states that have passed marriage amendments. It will put some Christian groups that take federal funds out of business altogether. Moreover, it will subject foster and adoptive children to the homosexual indoctrination and behavior of LGBT "parents".
Note the scare quotes around "families" and "parents."

86 House Members Demand Banning Gay Weddings On Military Bases

Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) has issued a letter calling for on-base gay weddings to be specifically banned in the Senate version of the National Defense Authorization Act. Eighty-six members of the House have co-signed Akin's letter.
"The Defense of Marriage Act was passed by a bipartisan vote in Congress and signed into law by President Clinton,” said Congressman Akin. “Unfortunately, this current administration is now directing the Department of Defense to ignore this law and perform gay marriages on military bases. I think this is wrong, which is why I offered an amendment to the House-passed defense bill making it clear that DOMA applies to the DOD. This letter calls for the Senate to add a similar amendment to their version of the bill. The Department of Defense should not be allowed to simply ignore laws they do not like.”
The names on Akin's letter are a Who's Who In Douchebaggery: Michele Bachmann, Mike Pence, Randy Forbes, Vicky Hartzler, Allen West, Joe Wilson, Steve King, Virginia Foxx, etc etc.

Email Of The Day - Herman Cain Campaign

According to a donation plea just sent out by the Herman Cain campaign, EVIL LIBERALS are behind the revelation that he'd been accused of sexual harassment. No evidence is offered to back this claim and no mention is made of swirling internet rumors that it was a GOP insider aligned with Romney that made the leak.

The email concludes: "This is what the Left always does. They hated Clarence Thomas. They hated Allen West when he ran in 2010. And now they hate Herman Cain. The Left spews such hatred at black conservatives because they know that if the GOP ever breaks the Democrat stranglehold on the black vote, they are DONE as a party."

Home Of Gay Rights Pioneer Frank Kameny Listed On Nat'l Register Of Historic Places

The Washington DC home of the late gay rights pioneer Frank Kameny has been listed with the National Register of Historic Places. Kameny died last month at the age of 86. Via press release from the National Park Service:
"Dr. Kameny led a newly militant activism in the fledgling gay civil rights of the 1960s," said NPS Director Jonathan B. Jarvis. "He was a landmark figure in articulating and achieving gay civil rights in federal employment and security clearance cases, and in reversing the medical community’s view on homosexuality as a mental disorder." Kameny’s efforts in the civil rights movement, modeled in part on African American civil rights strategies and tactics, significantly altered the rights, perceptions, and role of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people in American society. For years, Dr. Kameny’s residence at 5020 Cathedral Avenue, NW, in Washington, DC, served as a meeting place, archives, informal counseling center, headquarters of the Mattachine Society, and a safe haven for visiting gay and lesbian activists. It was here that Dr. Franklin E. Kameny developed the civil rights strategies and tactics that have come to define the modern gay rights movement.
Just fantastic. I'm looking up that address next time I'm there.

President Obama Mentions Gay Parents In National Adoption Month Proclamation

An excerpt:
The decision to adopt a child has brought profound joy and meaning into the lives of Americans across our country. Parents are moved to adopt for reasons as unique and varied as the children they embrace, but they are unified by the remarkable grace of their acts. Adoptive families come in all forms. With so many children waiting for loving homes, it is important to ensure that all qualified caregivers are given the opportunity to serve as adoptive parents, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or marital status.
The wingnut reaction should be delish.

New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan: We're Being Threatened With Lawsuits
For Not Hosting Gay Weddings

According to New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan, Catholic parishes have been inundated with threats of lawsuits over not hosting gay weddings. That revelation will come as a surprise to the rest of the world, who has not heard a single peep about any such thing.
"One of our arguments has always been that people of principle who feel this violates their deepest-held convictions are going to be forced to the wall," Archbishop Dolan said. "We were told we were being Chicken Littles and that was ridiculous." But "no sooner was the ink dry," he said, than priests throughout the state started coming to him with stories of couples threatening to sue if they didn't agree to rent out their parishes for same-sex weddings.

Richard Barnes, executive director of the New York Catholic Conference, said threats like those are unlikely to gain legal traction in the near future. A religious exemption in the New York marriage law specifically prohibits lawsuits against churches that refuse to provide their buildings or services for gay weddings. It also protects such religious organizations from being penalized by the state, through loss of aid to church welfare programs, for example.
Could the noble Archbishop be a giant fucking liar?
