Tweet Of The Day - NYC Southpaw

The above amusing message popped up as I was following the Day Of Rage protest on Twitter (#OccupyWallStreet), where the usual anarchists and other weirdos have landed their flying saucers to hijack the legitimate protests about "corporate personhood" and government-funded bank fraud.

"What do we want?"
UNDEFINED CHANGE!
"When do we want it?"
EVENTUALLY!

There appears to be a smallish crowd for the "camp-in" which supposedly will go on for weeks, although the NYPD thwarted things early by blockading the entrances to much of the financial district.

Oz Schools Ditch "BC" And "AD"

Calling it an act of "cultural cleansing," some Christian activists are furious that Australia's schools have decided to drop the abbreviations "BC" and "AD" from textbooks. Via the Christian Institute:
The curriculum will replace BC (Before Christ) with BCE (Before Common Era). And AD (Anno Domini – which means ‘in the year of our Lord’) will be replaced with CE (Common Era). But Peter Jensen, the Archbishop of Sydney, has branded the move as an “intellectually absurd attempt to write Christ out of human history”. “It is absurd because the coming of Christ remains the centre point of dating and because the phrase ‘common era’ is meaningless and misleading,” he said. And Reverend Fred Nile, an MP in the New South Wales parliament, described the changes as “an absolute disgrace”.
Over the last several years the same change has been seen in a number of American textbooks and publications.

Bloomberg: Riots Could Come To NYC Too

Yesterday Mayor Michael Bloomberg predicted that riots like those recently seen in Europe could sweep New York City if the economic climate doesn't improve.
As it emerged the number of people applying for unemployment benefits in the U.S. jumped last week to the highest level in three months, the Mayor spoke out, insisting that if nothing is done Americans will start revolting. 'We have a lot of kids graduating college, can't find jobs,' he said on his weekly radio show. 'That's what happened in Cairo. That's what happened in Madrid. You don't want those kinds of riots here.' His comments were in reference to the recent uprising in Egypt, which toppled president Hosni Mubarak, and protests in Spain by people outraged their government was spending millions on a papal visit rather than on dealing with unemployment. The comments came as President Barack Obama put pressure on Republicans to pass his jobs plan.

New AIDS Cases Drop 25% In NYC

New York City continues its long trend of fewer new AIDS cases, thanks in part to the increasing ease of complying with HIV drug regimens.
In a sign of progress against one of the great plagues of the last generation, a dwindling number of New Yorkers have been diagnosed with AIDS over the last eight years, according to new statistics released Friday. The number of adults newly diagnosed with AIDS dropped to 2,225 in the 2011 fiscal year, which ended June 30. That total was 25 percent lower than the total the year before (2,969 cases diagnosed), and 47 percent lower than in the 2003 fiscal year, when there were 4,164 new cases, according to the Mayor’s Management Report, which was released Friday.
At the pandemic's peak in 1993, NYC saw almost 13,000 new cases of AIDS.

UPDATE: In case it's not clear, this story is about the number of HIV-positive people who progress to full-blown AIDS, not the rate of new HIV infections.

Polish College Cancels "Ex-Gay" Confab

After criticism from a local newspaper, a Polish university has canceled this weekend's "ex-gay" conference in which the keynote speaker was to have been famed NARTH whackadoodle Joseph Nicolesi (left).
The Foundation for Health and Psychotherapeutic Education head, psychologist Bogna Bialecka, said that her Poznan-based organization has been planning the conference for several months so that Nicolosi could share his professional experience helping men deal with their unwanted same-sex attraction. “The decision of the Medical University’s governing body is a sad example of censoring the freedom of speech,” she said. According to Bialecka, homosexual activists sent hundreds of e-mail to the medical school demanding the conference be banned from its facilities. “The conference will take place nearby, but out of concern for the lecturer and the participants, we do not plan to publish the location of the new site,” she said.

Marriage Equality For Britain?

With the support of Prime Minister David Cameron, Britain's coalition government has announced plans to legalize same-sex marriage by 2015.
Liberal Democrat Lynne Featherstone will today unveil plans to legislate to bring in gay marriage before 2015. The Equalities Minister will also announce that Britain should be a ‘world leader for gay rights’. Vowing to be a personal ‘champion for gay rights’, Miss Featherstone will risk controversy by arguing that the Coalition should go even further in future. At present, gays and lesbians are allowed to enter civil partnerships, which offer most of the legal protections of marriage. But the term ‘marriage’ is not used. Miss Featherstone will announce that a consultation will begin next March on allowing homosexuals to get married. A change in the law will follow the consultation. Under the plans, same-sex couples will be able to have full marriages in registry offices, as heterosexual couples can.
A recent poll shows two-thirds of the British public supports marriage equality.

"What are you so afraid of? That’s my question. Gay people getting married? What is so scary about that? It’s complicated. You grow up in a religion like that and you try to pray the gay away. I feel sadness for people like that. This is where people start short-circuiting—instead of being brave and questioning their beliefs, they are afraid and feel that they have to defend them. I don’t mind a world with religion in it. There are some beautiful tenets within all religions. What I get hot about is when they start dictating how other people must live. People suffer because of it. They are spreading misery." - Brad Pitt, speaking to Parade Magazine.

More Layoffs At Focus On The Family

Get out your tiny violin, more people are losing their jobs at Focus On The Family.
Conservative Christian ministry Focus on the Family announced Friday it is eliminating 49 jobs in the latest of several rounds of layoffs in response to ongoing economic pressures. The family-counseling center in Colorado Springs had a $105 million budget this fiscal year ending Sept. 30, but officials project it will receive donations of only $90 million to $95 million. This new 7 percent staff reduction brings the employee number to 650, down from a 2002 peak of 1,400 people. In the last few years, Focus has let go almost 500 workers.
Even their diminished budget exceeds those of ALL the major national LGBT groups combined.

Maggie Gallagher Celebrates NOM Task Of Demonizing Gays To Other Minorities

"The majority of Democrats may not break with their party over an issue like gay marriage, but the most important voters are voters newly in motion, particularly core constituents willing to break party lines over a new issue. In NY-9, Orthodox Jews (and possibly Hispanics) played that role, and they broke party lines to protest Democrats' support for gay marriage. In North Carolina, look for a newly resurgent black church, almost all Democrats, to lead the battle for protecting our marriage tradition against those who dub it hateful, bigoted and discriminatory." - Maggie Gallagher, writing for Human Events.

RELATED: In order to foster anti-gay hatred in minority communities, NOM sent specially-targeted fliers to Jewish and Hispanic households in NY-09. In North Carolina, NOM paid for anti-gay black community leaders to record radio ads in support of the proposed marriage ban.

Homofascists Target PayPal!

Citing PayPal's mission statement that its service may not be used to distribute money intended to promote hatred and violence, the LGBT rights group All Out is demanding that PayPal sever its relationships with anti-gay hate groups. This campaign has Porno Pete LaBarbera positively quivering with rage, as PayPal has emailed him to inquire just what he does with his money.
It is no longer advisable to laugh off, dismiss or ignore the activist homosexual/liberal lobby’s escalating campaign to demonize Christians and punish groups like Americans For Truth. That is because everyday Americans are being influenced by the liberal media, which enable groups like the SPLC and All Out by failing to call into question their preposterous analogies, lies and hateful smears against Christians. We must fight back with the Truth and engage our politically enemies in a dogged, “house-to-house” battle to preserve our liberties and our ability to operate freely in the public square.
LaBarbera claims that AFTAH doesn't violate PayPal's rules because unlike some Muslims, he doesn't overtly call for the executions of homosexuals. He DOES, however, glowingly praise people like Scott Lively, the freakshow frequently cited as a primary force behind Uganda's "kill gays" bill. Next month, in fact, Lively will be "honored" at an AFTAH banquet.

TAKE ACTION: Sign All Out's petition to PayPal.

REMINDER: When anti-gay Christianist hate groups call for nationwide boycotts of LGBT-friendly companies, that is a righteous use of the free market in order to preserve morality, marriage, family, and the American way. But when GAY groups use or threaten the use of a boycott, THAT is homofascist intimidation, intolerance, bullying, and an attempt to deny the freedom of speech. Just so we're clear.

Teabagger Rep. Randy Hultgren Attempts To Revive Abstinence Education Funding

Focus On The Family is thrilled to announce that freshman teabagger Rep. Randy Hultgren (R) has introduced a bill to revive the funding for abstinence education.
Valerie Huber, Executive Director of the National Abstinence Education Association (NAEA) based in Washington, D.C., said in a press release, “Since President Obama chose to eliminate all funding for abstinence education, this bill is a welcome sign that sexual risk avoidance can once again be the primary prevention message that youth will receive in classrooms across America.” She continued, urging other Members of Congress to co-sponsor this bill, “NAEA applauds the leadership of Rep. Hultgren who has taken legislative action to support these positive trends in the healthy decisions teens are making … We encourage other Members of Congress to co-sponsor the Abstinence Education Reallocation Act of 2011 and urge the House to quickly approve the federal sex education policy change called for in this bill.”
Numerous studies have proven that abstinence education usually results in higher rates of STDs and teen pregnancy.

Smoking Rate Plummets In NYC

NYC To Get Bike-Sharing System

New York City has at last approved a bike-sharing system similar to those in Montreal, Boston, and Washington DC. Hurray!
More than 10,000 communal bicycles will flood the city's streets next summer as part of an ambitious bike-share plan, officials said Wednesday. The program has been billed as a key part of the Bloomberg administration's plan to make the city's roadways more welcoming to cyclists and pedestrians. "With bike share, we're reinventing the wheel by providing an affordable transportation option that's there when you want it," said Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan. Kiosks scattered across the city will hold several locked bikes. Once a would-be cyclist, who can either purchase a subscription or a one-time ride, pays at the kiosk, the bike is unlocked. The memberships are expected to cost less than $100 a year, Sadik-Khan said.
The program will roll out beginning in Manhattan below 79th Street, with several docking stations in Brooklyn to follow.

House Introduces Bill Denying Aid To Nations Supporting Palestinian State

Four Democrats in the U.S. House have introduced a bill that would deny foreign aid to any country that votes for Palestinian statehood in the upcoming United Nations referendum.
The bill introduced Monday in the U.S. House of Representatives by four lawmakers -- Reps. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), Steve Rothman (D-N.J.), Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) and Robert Brady (D-Pa.) -- would target dozens of nations that receive assistance ranging from the hundreds of thousands of dollars to billions. "We won't allow other countries to vote against our best friend with one hand in the U.N. and come to Congress to seek taxpayer dollars with the other hand," said Israel. The bill would include a standard presidential national security waiver. The Obama administration has said that the Palestinian Authority effort to secure statehood recognition this month would set back the prospect for renewed peace talks and has pledged to veto the bid should it come to the Security Council.
In a separate action, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and eight other House Republicans announced a similar bill that would deny U.S. funding to "any UN body that enhances the Palestinian status." Lehtinen is the chair of the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Crazy Eyes' Lies Now Have A Bounty

Bioethicists in Minnesota are offering an $11,000 reward if anybody can come up with the girl that Michele Bachmann claims was made mentally retarded by the HPV vaccine.
Steven Miles, a U of M bioethics professor, said that he’ll give $1,000 if the medical records of the woman from Bachmann’s story are released and can be viewed by a medical professional. His offer was upped by his former boss from the University of Minnesota, Art Caplan, who is now director of the University of Pennsylvania Center for Bioethics. Caplan said he would match Miles' challenge and offered $10,000 for proof of the HPV vaccine victim.

Sarah Palin Expose Alleges Cocaine Use And A Hook-Up With An NBA Star

According to leaked excerpts of a coming Sarah Palin expose, Lady Half-Term has a history of using cocaine, smoking pot, and had at least one hook-up with an NBA player. Which is nothing all that scandalous unless God himself has hand-picked you to run His Own Country.
In the book, which will be published on September 20th, McGinniss claims Sarah had a steamy interracial hookup with basketball stud GLEN RICE less than a year before she eloped with her husband Todd. Sarah hooked up with the NBA great, then a 6-foot-8 junior at the University of Michigan when he was playing in a college basketball tournament in Alaska in 1987, the book says. At the time, Sarah, just out of college, was working as a sports reporter for the Anchorage TV station KTUU. A publishing source told The ENQUIRER that McGinniss claims Sarah had a “fetish” for black men at the time and he quotes a friend as saying Sarah had “hauled (Rice’s) ass down.”

Abortion Activist Father Frank Pavone Suspended Over Financial Accusations

If you know the name Father Frank Pavone, it's probably from when he infested our television screens every night as the "spiritual adviser" and "Godly spokesman" for the comatose Terry Shiavo. Following that bit of limelight hogging, Pavone recast himself as the nation's most virulent Catholic in the battle against abortion rights, often appearing shoulder-to-shoulder with the murderous loons of Operation Rescue. (Pavone is "credited" by some for the idea of waving placards featuring bloody dismembered fetuses.)

Pavone is now the national director for Priests For Life, an anti-abortion group with a reported annual donation base in excess of ten million dollars. And whoopsie, his bishop just suspended him for (among other things) suspected financial "mismanagement" of those millions.

Via Catholic News Service:
Father Frank Pavone, one of the country's most visible and vocal opponents of abortion, has been suspended from active ministry outside the Diocese of Amarillo, Texas, over financial questions about his operation of Priests for Life. The suspension was made public in a Sept. 9 letter from Amarillo Bishop Patrick J. Zurek to his fellow bishops across the country, but Father Pavone told Catholic News Service that he was returning to Amarillo and planned to continue functioning as a priest there. "My decision is the result of deep concerns regarding his stewardship of the finances of the Priests for Life (PFL) organization," Bishop Zurek wrote. "The PFL has become a business that is quite lucrative which provides Father Pavone with financial independence from all legitimate ecclesiastical oversight." Bishop Zurek said "persistent questions and concerns" from clergy and laity about how the "millions of dollars in donations" the organization has received are being spent led to the action.
Pavone has a show on the Catholic cable network EWTN, which is already distancing themselves:
“EWTN is aware of reports that Bishop Patrick Zurek of the Diocese of Amarillo, Texas, has recalled Fr. Frank Pavone and restricted his faculties to function as a priest outside of that diocese. EWTN is in ongoing conversations with both the Diocese of Amarillo and Father Pavone to clarify the exact nature of the restrictions and their potential impact on EWTN’s ability to continue to air programming featuring Fr. Frank. ‘While these discussions are continuing, the network encourages our EWTN family to keep this matter in your prayers.”
But Operation Rescue is standing behind their hero.
The attack on the good name of Priests for Life and Fr. Frank Pavone in particular is shocking to say the least. Priests for Life's books are a matter of public record. I would expect this kind of slanderous attack from someone at Planned Parenthood or NARAL, but not from a bishop in the Church. This is a very sad day for the innocent unborn. We have labored alongside Fr. Frank throughout the years and know him to be a humble yet determined and faithful man of the highest integrity.

HomoQuotable - Dan Savage

"Religious conservatives loved the HPV virus because it killed women. Here was a potentially fatal STI that condoms couldn't protect you from. Abstinence educators pointed to HPV and jumped up and down—they loved to overstate HPV's seriousness and its deadliness—in their efforts to scare kids into saving themselves for marriage. And they fought the introduction of the HPV vaccine tooth-and-nail because vaccinating women against HPV would 'undermine' the abstinence message. Given a choice between your wife, daughter, sister, or mom dying of cervical cancer or no longer being to scream 'HPV IS GOING TO KILL YOU!' at classrooms full of terrified teenagers, socially conservative abstinence 'educators' preferred the former." - Dan Savage, writing for Slog.

Famed Activist Arthur Evans Dies At 68

Arthur Evans, one of the nation's earliest and best-known gay activists, has died of a heart attack at the age of 68. During the Stonewall era, Evans was a member of the Gay Liberation Front, a group he later left to co-found the Gay Activists Alliance.
Based in New York, the alliance became a model for gay rights organizations nationwide, pushing in New York for legislation to ban discrimination against gay men and lesbians in employment, housing and other areas. Mr. Evans wrote its statement of purpose and much of its constitution, which began, “We as liberated homosexual activists demand the freedom for expression of our dignity and value as human beings.” To attract attention the alliance staged what its members called “zaps,” confrontations with people or institutions that they believed discriminated against gay people. Among other incidents, they confronted Mayor John V. Lindsay of New York, went to television studios to protest shows perceived as anti-gay, demanded gay marriage rights at the city’s marriage license bureau, and demonstrated at the taxi commission against a regulation, since abolished, requiring gay people to get a psychiatrist’s approval before they could be allowed to drive a taxi.

"David Weprin is not going to Congress for one reason: he listened to Andrew Cuomo, Michael Bloomberg, the Human Rights Campaign and a few billionaires on Wall Street and went along with them to redefine marriage. Weprin foolishly believed them when they promised to protect him from any fallout over his vote to redefine marriage. The Human Rights Campaign continues to absurdly claim that no politician has ever been defeated over his or her vote to redefine marriage, even though NOM is responsible for defeating countless same-sex marriage advocates and electing hundreds of candidates who have pledged their support for traditional marriage. But even the mainstream media is beginning to see through HRC's deception." - NOM president Brian Brown.

NOTE: As "evidence" of how they single-handedly defeated Weprin, today NOM posted a link farm of numerous websites mentioning his NY Assembly vote for marriage. However most of those links merely re-quote NOM's own claim of swinging the election. Of the five stories about the election in today's NY Daily News, not one mentions marriage or NOM. All five mention Israel.

White House Denounces NC Marriage Bill

White House spokesman Shin Inouye has issued the following response to North Carolina's proposed anti-gay marriage amendment.
“The President has long believed that gay and lesbian couples deserve the same rights and legal protections as straight couples,” Inouye said. “That’s why he has called for repeal of the so-called ‘Defense of Marriage Act’ and determined that his Administration would no longer defend the constitutionality of DOMA in the courts. He has also said that the states should determine for themselves how best to uphold the rights of their own citizens. Inouye continued, “While the President does not weigh in on every single action taken by legislative bodies in our country, the record is clear that the President has long opposed divisive and discriminatory efforts to deny rights and benefits to same sex couples. The President believes strongly in stopping laws designed to take rights away.”

BALTIMORE: Five Year Sentence In Attack On Transgender Woman

To the dismay of LGBT activists, one of the women convicted of assaulting a transgender woman in a Baltimore McDonald's has only received a five year sentence for the hate crime.
"The whole incident is unfortunate and demonstrates the lack of knowledge and understanding, and discrimination against transgender people," said Patrick Wojahn, board president of the Equality Maryland Foundation. "If anything, five years may have been too short of an amount of time for the attack and the amount of hatred that was shown in the incident." Del. Joseline Pena-Melnyk agreed. "Five years is not enough for what she did. It was really horrible — nobody should do something like that to another human being," said Pena-Melnyk, who represents parts of Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties. She proposed legislation to prevent employers, creditors and others from discriminating against transgender people, but the measure failed in the 2011 General Assembly.
The victim is planning a civil suit against McDonald's.

Friendly Voices - Clint Eastwood

"These people who are making a big deal about gay marriage? I don’t give a fuck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We’re making a big deal out of things we shouldn’t be making a deal out of. Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want." - Clint Eastwood, speaking to GQ Magazine.

NOM Celebrates NY-09

Convinced that President Obama has somehow "abandoned Israel," yesterday Brooklyn's massive Orthodox Jewish community provided the margin for GOP candidate Bob Turner to flip a U.S. House district that has been Democrats' hands for decades. NOM, of course, is ignoring the "punish Obama" factor and is claiming that the election was entirely a statement on same-sex marriage. Whatevs. NY-09 will likely vanish in next year's redistricting.

RELATED: Self-hating closeted homosexual and former NY mayor Ed Koch, who actually does support same-sex marriage, took the stage last night at Turner's victory party, where the two stood under a giant Israeli flag to denounce the president.

AFTAH To "Honor" Scott Lively

What do you call it when two SPLC-certified hate groups get together for an orgy of self-congratulation? Next month Porno Pete's one-man-show, AFTAH, will "honor" one of the main forces behind Uganda's "kill gays" bill, Pink Swastika author Scott Lively.
As you will know if you have ever attended an Americans For Truth banquet or speaking event, they are very special occasions. Our banquet this year will be made more special by the appearance of Scott Lively (right), a brilliant, veteran Christian culture warrior who has been leading the resistance against the homosexualist juggernaut — in the USA and across the world – for more than two decades. We will honor Scott, who has suffered greatly for doing good and honoring God and His Truth.
Lively was recently in the news after police raided his Massachusetts teen outreach center to arrest its manager, a convicted pedophile. Porno Pete recently tweeted his opposition to the gay death penalty, but his planned tribute to Lively tells the real story, doesn't it?Note that LaBarbera predicts "homosexual protesters chanting lies" outside his banquet. Let's hope a local JMG reader burns the ten bucks to get inside the hate fest.

Docs Diss Bachmann On HPV Vaccine

The nation's largest pediatricians group has issued a statement denouncing Michele Bachmann's claim that Gardisil causes mental retardation. Bachmann is not directly named in the press release.
"The American Academy of Pediatrics would like to correct false statements made in the Republican presidential campaign that HPV vaccine is dangerous and can cause mental retardation. There is absolutely no scientific validity to this statement. Since the vaccine has been introduced, more than 35 million doses have been administered, and it has an excellent safety record. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Academy of Family Physicians all recommend that girls receive HPV vaccine around age 11 or 12. That’s because this is the age at which the vaccine produces the best immune response in the body, and because it’s important to protect girls well before the onset of sexual activity. In the U.S., about 6 million people, including teens, become infected with HPV each year, and 4,000 women die from cervical cancer. This is a life-saving vaccine that can protect girls from cervical cancer."

NAACP Denounces NC Marriage Bill

The North Carolina chapter of the NAACP has issued an open letter to all state residents. An excerpt:
Our legislature and all North Carolinians should focus on providing sound basic education for every child; equal access to good health care; living wages; workers rights; recovery from natural disasters; and protections for maximum voter turnout. Who can tell thousands of families living without health care that they are better served by the legislature debating whether to amend the Constitution to address a personal religious issue in a way that will enshrine discrimination into the sacred document? [snip] The NAACP strongly urges you to reject the so-called same sex amendment and any other present or future proposals of constitutional amendments that would permanently deprive any person in our great state of his or her inalienable rights.
